(IN BRIEF) ANDRITZ has secured a major order to provide authority engineering services for a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany, placed by the joint venture REPCO, which includes major energy companies such as RWE, EnBW, RheinEnergie, and Rostock Port GmbH. The plant is set to contribute to Germany’s Hydrogen Core Network and the European Hydrogen Backbone, advancing green energy and decarbonization goals. The order includes the supply of the plant using HydrogenPro pressurized alkaline technology, with commissioning expected in 2027. This marks ANDRITZ’s second order for a similar project in Germany, following one with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.
(PRESS RELEASE) GRAZ, 3-Mar-2025 — /EuropaWire/ — International technology group ANDRITZ has been awarded the authority engineering contract for a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany. This significant order was placed by REPCO (Rostock EnergyPort Cooperation GmbH), a joint venture comprising RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energien GmbH, RheinEnergie AG, and Rostock Port GmbH.
Pending an investment decision expected by mid-2025, REPCO plans to move forward with ANDRITZ for the plant’s development. Once completed, the facility will be among the first in Germany to integrate with the “Hydrogen Core Network” and the European Hydrogen Backbone infrastructure, marking a crucial step in Europe’s shift toward green energy.
Upon receiving the go-ahead, ANDRITZ will oversee the delivery of the plant on an EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) basis. The electrolysis process will utilize HydrogenPro pressurized alkaline technology. The scope includes the green hydrogen production facility, related offsite utilities, hydrogen purification and compression systems, storage solutions, and a hydrogen filling station. The plant is set to begin operations by 2027.
REPCO’s hydrogen plant will be one of the initial connections to Germany’s Hydrogen Core Network, which is slated to be operational by 2028. In addition to its contribution to the broader European hydrogen infrastructure, the facility will support local industries and the mobility sector, further advancing Germany’s decarbonization objectives.
Michael Wurzel, Managing Director of REPCO, highlighted the importance of the project: “The 100 MW electrolyzer is at the heart of the HyTechHafen Rostock project, which plays a pivotal role in the energy transition across Europe. This is an essential project for Rostock, cementing the area’s position as a key hub for energy transportation. ANDRITZ has shown deep understanding and flexibility in managing the full scope, and we value their collaborative approach.”
Sami Pelkonen, EVP of Green Hydrogen at ANDRITZ, shared his thoughts on the project: “The green transition cannot be achieved by any one entity alone, and this project exemplifies that. We are excited to see leading German energy companies and Rostock Port GmbH joining forces to push this initiative forward. We are proud to contribute to this important green hydrogen project and work together towards a sustainable future.”
REPCO was established in 2022 with the mission of advancing the development and expansion of green hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure.
This order marks ANDRITZ’s second contract for supplying a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Germany, following a similar agreement with Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.
